On August 29, 2023, Gordon Pan, the Greater China Region General Manager of TIER IV, took the stage at the first study group of the “Advancing Social Transformation and Data Element Marketization through Digital Technology in Japan and China.” This event was held at the China Suzhou Industrial Park. After giving a presentation, he also actively participated in a panel session.
TIER IV’s mission is to drive the development of autonomous driving (AD) technology and industry, not only in Japan but also in China, leveraging the power of open-source. The insights gathered from this study group will further power us to lead the way in open-source AD technology.
During his presentation, Gordon presented TIER IV’s practical use cases in Japan, focusing on the theme of “PLATEAU enables nationwide autonomous driving simulation across Japan.” In the panel session, he discussed the current state of digital twin utilization, how to build technology infrastructures, and business models in Japan and China.
The study group was organized by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the Industrial Planning Research Institute, the Jiangsu Research Institute, and the Guangzhou Smart City Research Institute from China, together with the Nomura Research Institute (NRI) Future Innovation Center from Japan. Research institutes, companies, and related organizations from Japan and China, including the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Suzhou Industrial Park Big Data Center, and the Shanghai Yangpu District Science and Technology Commission, attended the study group. The study group aimed to promote cooperation in the field of the use of digital twins between Japan and China by exchanging views and discussing development trends, use cases, and project-based business models in Japan and China.
