Previous installments in this series focused on Autoware and the potential of open-source software in autonomous driving technology, as well as looking at some of the challenges and development methods in the sector. This installment introduces TIER IV's main products – Pilot.Auto, Web.Auto, and Edge.Auto – and tailored solutions that leverage these products. Building on years of expertise in autonomous driving, TIER IV offers a comprehensive lineup of innovations designed to meet diverse customer needs.
At the core is Pilot.Auto, autonomous driving software based on Autoware that bundles additional applications not included in the open-source operating system. Customized packages are provided based on the vehicle model and operational design domain.
Web.Auto is a cloud-based platform for developing and operating Pilot.Auto. It includes a toolchain to create autonomous driving systems and a fleet management system for monitoring operations on the road, with all components accessible through the cloud. Enabling seamless software development and testing, over-the-air deployment and data collection, Web.Auto provides a solid foundation for operating autonomous driving systems.
Finally, Edge.Auto integrates hardware such as electronic control units, cameras, LiDAR, and other sensors, along with the software needed to operate them, into a reference kit.
TIER IV offers these products as bundled solutions, giving customers a head start in the development of autonomous driving systems. One such solution is Bluebird, which combines the essential onboard software, Pilot.Auto, with the cloud-based development and operation platform, Web.Auto, into a licensed package.
TIER IV Minibus
Another solution, fanfare, integrates sensors and onboard computers into base vehicles, marketed as white-label products. Currently, fanfare features a minibus, with additional vehicles planned for the lineup in the near future.
TIER IV’s products and solutions are designed to cut development time and costs for customers, accelerating the deployment of autonomous vehicles. In the next installment, we’ll explore how TIER IV's innovative DevOps platform combines real-world data with agile development techniques to enhance autonomous driving systems.
